  • SESSION 101 - SUMMER MUSICAL

    • Type: fine_art

    This camp is for students who wish to advance their theatrical techniques.  Students will act, sing and dance as they perform Mary Poppins Jr. in a professional theatre setting with an audience.  All registered students will be cast in the show.  Students who would like to be considered for a principal role should submit a completed and signed Conflict Sheet (found at sfhssummertheatre.weebly.com under “Auditions 2018”) by the time of their auditions.     All students are encouraged to attend in order to learn song choices and audition techniques (workshop attendance is not mandatory).  Selections for audition songs will NOT be taught on the same day as auditions.

  • SESSION 102- YOUNG SPARTAN SHOWCASE

    In this camp, students will learn the foundational skills of acting, singing and dancing as they perform Aladdin – a one act production - in a professional theatre setting with an audience.  Students will be introduced to various theatrical techniques while having the opportunity to work alongside older and more experienced actors who are in cast in the summer musical.  All registered students will be cast in the show.

  • SESSION 103 - SUMMER MUSICAL STAGE CREW

    This camp is for students wanting to participate in stage crew for the summer musical. Students will learn the basics of theatrical stage crew: set design, building, painting, and decoration; lighting; sound design; prop design; and costuming. Students will also be part of the summer musical running crew, which coordinates backstage work during tech rehearsals and each performance.  Students should bring a lunch on days when camp begins in the morning.

  • SESSION 105 - YEARBOOK THEME DEVELOPMENT

    During this two-day camp, students will develop the verbal and visual theme of the 2018-2019 Yearbook, including color scheme, fonts, visual theme extensions and concepts and will prepare students to “hit the ground running” on the first day of class.   • SESSION 108 - INTRODUCTION TO JAZZ BAND

    Students who play the flute, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trombone, baritone, trumpet, guitar, bass guitar, piano, and mallet percussion drum set will play in a jazz ensemble setting and will work on performing a wide variety of jazz music (Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and some modern music as well). Students will use their individual skills with a group and make progress in rhythm, melody, balance, improvisation and other musical elements, and should be comfortable on their instruments. All equipment is provided. The students will perform in a concert at the end of the week.     Percussionists will work together in an ensemble setting. Students will focus on playing several different cadences and techniques that are applicable to a drumline.   • SESSION 113 - BOOK TO MOVIE CAMP

    This camp is for students who enjoy reading a book and then watching the story played out in film. Students will be given copies of four books which have been made into movies. It is hoped that each participant will read the book before watching the movie. A short discussion of the book will be followed by watching the movie. Then a discussion will follow the movie.  Refreshments will be served.

    Among the books/movies to be enjoyed are “The Secret Life of Bees” “The Fault in Our Stars,” “Wonder,” and a title to be selected by the campers.

  • SESSION 122 - NGSS SCIENCE: FOOD, FLYING PROJECTILES AND ANIMALS... OH MY!

  • SESSION 123 - MYTHBUSTERS - QUEST FOR TRUTH!

    Inspired by the popular TV show Myth Busters, St. Francis High School science instructors will challenge students to find the truth and debunk scientific myths as they use the scientific method. Students are encouraged to be fearless, ask questions, design experiments, and investigate misconceptions and myths about science. In a fun and creative environment, this camp will help prepare students for exploring the scientific method as utilized in their high school science courses. All supplies are included.

    This camp is open to both girls and boys interested in cheerleading (no experience is necessary). Junior cheerleaders will learn the basics of proper motion technique, jumps, stunting technique, and tumbling skills. They will be taught two to three sideline chants, a short dance, and a floor cheer that they can bring back to their own teams for use during their cheer seasons. Athletes should bring water and wear cheer shoes or gym shoes, as well as comfortable clothing for physical activity.

  • SESSION 240 - SWIMMING TECHNIQUE - 6th thru 10th Grade

    • Type: athletic

    In this camp, swimmers will focus on nutrition, goal-setting, mental toughness and building technical stroke skills, beginning with fundamental balance and positioning, and then progressing to advanced skills to optimize efficiency.  Swimmers will work through all strokes and learn foundational dryland exercises.  Swimmers will be filmed daily and receive their footage, as well as written feedback from coaches.  This camp meets at the Wheaton Sport Center Pool and is geared toward both newer and experienced swimmers.  Swimmers should bring a front mount snorkel.
